Special for 2018
Lantern and Light Parade: Inspired by the Lantern Parade through the Vista at Artista Vista 2016, Artista Vista organizers are offering two workshop dates for members of the public to come make their own lanterns for the 2018 parade, which will take place at dusk (around 8 p.m.) during Artista Vista on Thursday, April 19. Facilitated by artists, these workshops will guide attendees through making their own lanterns with recycled materials. Lanterns at the Lantern and Light Parade have become increasingly creative, and for the first time, the Vista Guild will offer cash prizes for best lanterns, decided upon by jurors.
Sunday, April 15, 1 – 5 p.m. at 701 CCA (701 Whaley St.): 701 CCA will host an artist-led workshop so that lantern-makers of all ages will be ready with a creative lantern for the Light and Lantern Parade at Art Night of Artista Vista. Lanterns and bamboo will be available, as well as lightbulbs, materials and paint for decorating lanterns. Participants may also bring their own materials. This workshop is part of 10-year anniversary celebrations at 701 CCA and will reference notable artists to exhibit at 701 CCA by using materials that relate to these artists and organization. This workshop is free for 701 CCA members or a $25 charge, which will also afford participants a one-year 701 CCA membership. Registration is required.
Thursday, April 19, 5 – 7:30 p.m. at Art Night at Artista Vista under the Lincoln Street canopy by Blue Marlin: The Vista Guild will have lantern-making materials on hand for Light and Lantern Parade participants. Led by artists, this workshop, lightbulbs and materials are free. Lantern-makers can take their finished lanterns to the parade, which will begin at dusk (around 8 p.m.).
Resident Artists at Stormwater Studios host first exhibition: The Resident Artists at Stormwater Studios, the brand new artist collaborative at Stormwater Studios (413 Pendleton St.), will host their first exhibition and a ribbon cutting on Art Night, Thurs., April 19 at 6 p.m. The Resident Artists at Stormwater Studios are formerly known as Vista Studios/Gallery80808. The public is invited to celebrate these artists in their new studio and exhibition space.
Children’s Activities on Lincoln Street, 5:30 – 7 p.m.: Artista Vista will offer face painting and other children’s activities on Lincoln Street between Gervais and Lady Streets.
